What Is an Immigration Psychological Evaluation?

An immigration psychological evaluation is a professional mental health assessment that may assist immigration attorneys and courts in understanding the psychological effects of trauma, persecution, domestic violence, or family separation.

These evaluations may provide clinical documentation of mental health symptoms that are relevant to immigration legal cases.

Each evaluation includes:

• clinical interview
• psychological screening instruments when appropriate
• review of relevant records
• written evaluation report prepared for immigration legal proceedings

Extreme hardship waiver evaluations
VAWA psychological evaluations
U-Visa evaluations for victims of crime
T-Visa evaluations for survivors of trafficking

These evaluations may document trauma exposure, psychological hardship, and the mental health impact of immigration-related experiences.

The immigration psychological evaluation process typically includes the following steps:

  1. Referral from immigration attorney or client inquiry

  2. Scheduling of evaluation appointment

  3. Clinical interview and psychological screening instruments

  4. Review of relevant records when available

  5. Preparation of written psychological evaluation report

Typical report turnaround time is two to three weeks, depending on scheduling and complexity.

Expedited reports may be available when scheduling permits.

Immigration psychological evaluations are available in person (dependent upon distance) or via secure telehealth for individuals located throughout:

Texas
New Mexico

Interpreter services may be utilized when needed to facilitate communication during the evaluation. These services will not be provided by Desert Bloom Therapy and are at the expense of the client and/or attorney of record.

How to Request Your Health Care Records

Clients have the right to request access to their health care records.

To request your records:

Submit a written request by email to robin@mydesertbloom.com

Include your full name, date of birth, and the specific records you are requesting

Requests may be subject to identity verification and applicable fees as permitted by law

Records will be provided within the timeframe required by Texas law

 

If records are requested on behalf of another individual, documentation verifying legal authority is required (for example, guardianship documentation or medical power of attorney).

Identity verification may be required to protect client privacy and confidentiality in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
